THIBODAUX, La. – After dropping a pair of midweek contests, the Nicholls State University baseball team looks to get back on track in the finial road series of the regular season against New Orleans on May 2-4.
First pitch from Maestri Field on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. while Saturday's action will begin at 2 p.m. and the series finale will be at 1 p.m. All three contests will be streamed via ESPN+.
Nicholls (15-29, 8-16 SLC) enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak after dropping road contests at Tulane and South Alabama earlier in the week. The Colonels offense is led by
Karson Irvin (.307) and
Jaden Collura (.306) who have 50 and 45 hits respectively. Collura has 10 doubles and leads the unit with 26 RBI.
Alec Sparks leads the Colonels on the mound with a 3.53 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 58.2 innings of work.
UNO (23-20, 10-14 SLC) is on a five-game slide after losing road games at No. 22 Southern Miss and Jackson State earlier this week. The Privateers offense features four players batting over .300 as Bryce Calloway (.390) leads the way with 64 hits, 14 home runs and 54 RBI. Their bullpen is led by Grant Edwards who has a 4.00 ERA in a team high 63 innings of work.
Nicholls leads the all-time series against UNO, 37-27 dating back to 1998. However, the Privateers swept the Red & Gray last season. The Colonels and Privateers are looking to gain momentum at the right time as they fighting for the final spots in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament.
