Nicholls XC & T&F Programs Host 8th Annual Colonel 5K

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University track and field and cross-country programs hosted its 8th Annual Colonel 5K.

The course spanned across campus and for the third year the race is in partnership with the Nicholls Student Programming Association who had several color powder stations throughout the race. In the 5K, Jose Plata (18:33.9) taking first and Hayes Moore (19:15.9) posted the only sub-20-minute times.

The participants in the Kids 1K received a medal for being a Hope Lodge Champion and the proceeds from the event will go to The Ross Mullooly Project: Outrunning Cancer. Monica and James Mullooly gave their thoughts on the upcoming event. "We are so excited to partner with Nicholls State and continue Ross' mission in support of the Patrick Taylor Hope Lodge."

Nicholls track and field head coach Stefanie Slekis gave her thoughts on this year's event.

"We are so grateful to Houma Family Dental as our presenting donor, Scorpion Subsea's continued support as our premier donor, and our continued partnership with Nicholls SPA for the color pop! Without their support this event would not be possible. It was a great first year hosting our timed kids 1k that benefited the Ross Mullooly Project:Outrunning Cancer. We are excited to keep building on the event to make it even bigger next year. Today was a beautiful day for a race and we appreciate everyone who came and supported Nicholls Track & Field and cross country."
