Final Stats NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team snapped its three-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over New Orleans in a game that began on May 2 but ended on May 3 due to in climate weather.
Nicholls (16-28, 9-16 SLC) jumped out to quick 1-0 advantage as leadoff hitter
Narvin Booker Jr. singled before scoring on a two out base hit by
Jaden Collura. Starting pitcher
Nuno Parache kept the Privateers off the board until the third inning where their leadoff batter took advantage of a Colonel error before scoring on a double. Parache provided one more scoreless frame before the Red & Gray shifted the momentum.
During a rainy fifth frame and one down, Booker Jr. and
Karson Irvin tallied consecutive hits before
Logan Mock reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Play was suspended until the following afternoon. The Colonels picked up where they left off as Collura laced a two-run single to right center before Mock scored on an
Aaron Biediger base knock to put the Red & Gray up 4-1.
Relief pitcher
Harper Jordan took over on the mound and provided three scoreless frames. The Colonels added to their lead as
Carter Jenkins blasted a solo home run to right field on the second pitch of the eighth inning. Harper allowed four walks in the home half to make the score 5-2 heading into the ninth.
In the final stanza, Mock and Collura earned consecutive two out walks. Next, Jenkins added two more RBI with a double to right center that allowed Collura and pinch runner
Andy Miller to score to make the final. Relief pitcher
Cole Simoneaux earned his third save of the season as he finished the eighth with a strikeout and tallied two more in the ninth before ending the game with a fly out.
