THIBODAUX, La. – After a six-game road trip, the Nicholls State University baseball team will return home to host Southeastern in the final three game series of the regular season.
Nicholls (16-30, 9-18 SLC) struggled on their road trip as they dropped five of the six contests with the lone victory coming at UNO on Friday night.
The Red & Gray offense is led by
Jaden Collura (.321) who has 50 hits including 10 doubles and a team high 29 RBI.
Karson Irvin (.288) has been steady all season as he leads the unit with 51 hits and 37 runs.
Carter Jenkins leads the team in batting average (.322) with 39 hits.
Alec Sparks leads the Colonels on the mound with a 3.43 ERA, 62 strikeouts in 65.2 innings of work.
Southeastern (35-13, 20-7 SLC) is currently sitting atop the league standings as they have the least amount of conference losses and the second most overall wins out of all the SLC teams. The Lions offense features five starters batting over .300 as the unit is led by Ryan Brome (.355) and Dane Watts (.339) who have tallied 56 hits and 55 hits respectively while combining for and 69 RBI. TJ Salvaggio (.315) leads the team with 62 this and 42 runs. Brennan Stuprich leads the Lions on the mound with a 2.14 ERA, 102 strikeouts in 80 innings of action.
Both teams will be rested as they had games scheduled earlier in the week canceled due to weather. The Colonels are looking to build momentum as they are jockeying with multiple teams for the final spots in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. On the flip side, the Lions are battling with multiple teams at the top of the table as they are trying to be one of the two teams that host the bracket play pods for the SLC Tournament.
