Searles Garners Southland Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - For the second straight week, a Nicholls State University men's basketball student-athlete has garnered a weekly honor as Jaylen Searles was named Southland Conference Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Searles had a sensational showing in the Colonels' 2-0 week, averaging 21.5 points on .577 from the field, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks.

The Everett, Washington native started off with 18 points and six rebounds in the 74-72 home win over Northwestern State. He then played all 40 minutes at New Orleans, scoring his Colonel career-high 24 points to go along with four steals and four assists. 

For the week, he totaled seven made three-pointers and was 5 of 7 at the free throw line. 

Searles now leads the Colonels in scoring at 14.3 points per game, which ranks 10th in the Southland. 

Nicholls returns to action tonight against McNeese. The Colonels will be looking to remain in sole possession of first place with the Cowboys just a game behind in the standings. Tipoff in Lake Charles is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
