Women's Hoops set to Host SFA & Lamar

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will host Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 15) and Lamar (Jan. 17) inside Stopher Gym.

Last week, Nicholls (8-6, 4-3 SLC) split in-state road contests at McNeese and New Orleans. The Colonels offense struggled against the Cowgirls but found their rhythm against the Privateers. In the win over the Privateers the Colonels played stout defense in the fourth quarter as they held UNO to zero field goals the final 8:16 of the game.

The Red & Gray offense is a balanced attack that features five players averaging at least nine points. Tanita Swift leads the unit with 11.7, Jasmine Matthews averges 11.5, while Jesslynn Jalomo adds 10.6. Sh'Diamond McKnight and Marie Kenembeni score 9.4 and 9.3 points per game, respectively.

Anyra Wilson has been a two-way force as she paces the offense with 3.6 assists and anchors the defense with 2.6 steals per game. Wilson stuffed the stat sheet last week as she averaged 13.5 points, 8 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4 steals. She was 9-12 from the field, 8-11 from the charity stripe, and knocked down her only shot from long range. She was on quadruple-double watch in the victory over UNO as she led the team with 15 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and six steals.

SFA (11-5, 5-2 SLC) extended its win streak to four as they defeated UIW (75-63) and HCU (87-67) last week. The Ladyjacks offense features four double figure scorers as Harmine Dominguez leads the way with 14.9 points per game followed by Myka Perry (13.2), Key Rosebey (12.4), and Kaylinn Kemp (12).

Lamar (8-6, 5-2 SLC) is also coming off a week where they defeated HCU (66-54) and UIW (78-62). The Cardinals are led by Kamryn Wilson and Shaila Forman who average 11.1 and 10.5 points per contest. Jacei Denley adds 9.5 points while Solenne Olenga leads the team in rebounds with 5.6.

Nicholls enters the week currently tied for sixth place in the SLC standings while SFA and Lamar are in a four-way tie for second.
