THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University graduate student
Marie Kenembeni was named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Kenembeni had an outstanding week as she averaged 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 75% (15-20) from the field in the Colonels' two rivalry wins. She made both of her 3-point attempts, shot 9-12 from the charity stripe and added two assists and a steal.
The Yaounde, Cameroon native hit eight of nine field goals and scored 20 points in a home victory over New Orleans to begin the week. She carried her momentum on the road as she scored 21 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double in a thrilling victory over Southeastern in Hammond.
Kenembeni is the first Colonel to earn SLC Player of the Week honors this season and the first to do it since her teammate
Tanita Swift did it in consecutive weeks last season. Additionally, she is now one of five Colonels that average at least nine points (9.6) and is second on the team in rebounds per contest (4.6).
