FRISCO, Texas -- For the second consecutive week, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team has a representative earning a Southland Conference Weekly honor: senior midfielder Alyssa Wheeler was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

Wheeler had a major impact on Nicholls' 2-1 victory over UTRGV last Thursday. The Clovis, California native earned three points, scoring a goal and assisting on another.

Wheeler scored the game-winning goal in the 79th minute in rare fashion, hooking a corner kick past the goalkeeper to secure the Colonels' fifth victory of the season. Wheeler's seventh goal is the most by a Colonel in a single season since 2019.

She also had an assist on the game's opening goal by Jezlyn Nelson. Wheeler is one of seven players in the SLC with at least seven goals and is one of six players with at least six assists. Additionally, she is one of three players who rank within the top seven in both statistics.

Wheeler joins Angelina Rispone and Aislinn Wright as Colonels who have earned a SLC weekly honor this season.
