THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's basketball team will begin a four-game road swing by crossing state lines to battle HCU (2/12) and UIW (2/14).
Nicholls (11-11, 7-8 SLC) split a pair of home games last week as they suffered a three-point loss to UTRGV before beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by 27. The Colonels currently sit in eighth place in the league standings and are three games clear of HCU.
The Red & Gray have a balanced offense attack that features five players who average at least seven points. The unit is spearheaded by
Marie Kenembeni who averages 10.8 points. She has scored at least 17 points in five of the last six contests.
Sh'Diamond McKnight averages 10.7 and is coming off a huge performance where she scored hit six field goals including three triples and seven foul shots to finish with 22 points to lift the Colonels over the Islanders.
Tanita Swift averages 10.3 points per game and is stout on both ends of the floor as she averages 2.7 steals per game. She had six takeaways in the victory over AMCC.
Jesslynn Jalomo and
Jasmine Matthews round out the top offensive production as they score 9.5 and 7.8 points per game respectively.
HCU (6-16, 4-11 SLC) is currently on a two-game losing streak dropping road games at McNeese and Southeastern. The Huskies offense is led by Kamryn McLaurin and Grace Booth who average 11.7 and 10.5 points per game. Booth also leads the unit with 6.6 rebounds per contest.
UIW (10-12, 8-7 SLC) is currently on a four-game losing streak after they also dropped road contests at Southeastern and McNeese. The Cardinals will host UNO on Thursday before the Colonels get to San Antonio. The Cardinals offense is led by Jorja Elliot who scores 11.7 points per game while Brynn Lusby, Madison Cockrell, and Gwendlyn McGrew add 9.9, 9.2, and 8.9 points respectively.
Earlier this season the Colonels opened league play with a two-point loss to UIW to move to 8-11in the all-time series dating back to 2014. The Red & Gray followed that loss with a 70-47 victory over HCU to improve to 14-7 in the all-time series dating back to 2014.
