THIBOUDAX, La. – Nicholls State University first baseman
Caston Thompson was named the Southland Conference's Baseball Hitter of the Week as announced on Monday afternoon.
Thompson had an outstanding week for the Colonels as he recorded 12 hits including three doubles and two home runs. While batting .462 and slugging .808 he also scored seven times, tallied six RBI and earned three free passes.
The Jayess, Mississippi native had three multi-hit games against UT-Martin including a 4-4 day to help the Colonels' win their first game of the season. He began the week with one hit and two walks against South Alabama and a base hit at No. 2 LSU. Thompson had a two-run homer in the series opener against the Skyhawks before accumulating nine hits including another HR and scoring six times to help the Colonels win three consecutive games to end the weekend.
After the incredible week at the plate Thompson now leads the team in batting average (.389), hits (14), runs (8), RBI (9), doubles (3), and home runs (3).
UP NEXT
Nicholls (3-6) will host Dillard on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at noon. The Colonels will open Southland Conference action in a three game home series against McNeese on Feb. 27- March 1.
