THIBODAUX, La. -- The Nicholls State University baseball team defeated McNeese 3-2 in the series finale on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.
After falling behind 2-0, Nicholls tied the game two runs in the bottom of the second.
Greyson Shafer who reached on a throwing error later scored on a groundout.
Will Mabry walked and later scored on
Jaxon Milam single to left field.
Following a scoreless third frame and an efficient 1-2-3 top of the fourth inning, the Colonels took the lead on three hits in the home half of the stanza. Milam doubled to left field before scoring on a Noah Detiller base knock to put the Colonels up 3-2.
The Colonels' offense produced six hits as Milam led the way with two.
Carter Jenkins,
Logan Mock, Shafer, and Detillier had one hit apiece. For the pitching staff, starter
Haden Luke had five strikeouts and allowed three hits and two runs in 5.1 innigs of work.
Cole Simoneaux and
Eli Waters combined for three strikeouts as they pitched 1.2 and 1.0 innings respectively.
Joseph Bordelon struckout the side in the ninth to secure the victory for the Red & Gray.
