THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten 12-2 by Northwestern State University in the series opener on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday night.
Both teams got out to hot starts offensively as both squads scored one run apiece in the opening inning. After Northwestern State (17-9, 9-4 SLC) scored on a ground out,
Carter Jenkins plated
Matt Melancon with a two out double to tie the game at one.
The Colonels offense went cold for five consecutive innings while the Demons' found their rhythm and plated five runs in that same time span. After falling behind 7-1,
Logan Terry blasted his first home run of the season.
NSU scored five runs in the final two stanzas to put the game on ice. The Colonels finished with seven hits as Terry and
Nico Rijo-Berger finished with two apiece.
Caston Thompson, Jenkins, and Melancon had the other hits for the Red & Gray.
For the pitching staff,
Nuno Parache suffered his third loss of the season after allowing five hits and four earned runs in 4.1 innings of work.
Caleb Dyess had three strikeouts and allowed three hits in 1.1 innings of action while
Karson Trichel and
Noah Melancon threw one full frame apiece.
