THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team will battle Tulane in New Orleans on Tuesday, March 31 at 6:30 p.m.
Nicholls (14-15, 6-8 SLC) took one of three games against Northwestern State in Thibodaux over the weekend. Earlier this month, the Colonels beat Tulane 6-5 at home marking the first win for the Red & Gray over the Green Wave since 2019. First baseman
Caston Thompson hit two home runs to lead the Colonels to victory.
Thompson spearheads the offense as he leads the unit in batting average (.340), hits (36), runs (21) and home runs (8).
Nico Rijo-Berger has 25 hits and holds the teams second best average (.316).
Keegan Giger has 30 hits and leads the team in RBI (24).
The Red & Gray pitching staff has accumulated 286 strikeouts as
Haden Luke (4.85 ERA) leads the way with 43. Luke is coming off an impressive performance where he had 14 strikeouts and allowed one walk in six innings of action.
Tulane (14-15, 2-4 AAC) enters the week on a three-game losing streak after being swept by UAB. The Green Wave offense is led by Jason Wachs (.314) who has 33 hits and 29 RBI. Kaikea Harrison (.290) has a team high 36 hits and 23 RBI.
On the mound, Tulane has a 5.07 cumulative ERA and has 262 strikeouts. J.D. Rodriguez leads the unit with 34 strikeouts while Trey Cehajic and Sam Larson have 33 and 32 respectively.
