Tulane Tops Colonels, 6-2, on Tuesday Night

NEW ORLEANS - The Nicholls State University baseball team was limited to three hits as the Colonels fell 6-2 at Tulane Tuesday night at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.

Nicholls (14-16) was hitless through three innings before tallying two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Tulane (15-15) would allow just a two-out walk in the ninth the rest of the way as the Green Wave evened the season series with the win.

Caston Thompson, Nico Rijo-Berger and Jaxon Milam all singled for the Colonels. Facing a new pitcher in the fourth and trailing 3-0, Nicholls tallied its first hit on a Thompson popup single that dropped inside the left-field line. Rijo-Berger followed with a two-out hard liner through the right side but the Colonels would leave the two runners on base.

Nicholls pieced together a two-run fifth thanks to a leadoff walk and a Tulane error. With runners on second and third, Milam singled to right to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. But the rally was halted after Milam was thrown out trying to steal third and a strikeout ended the frame.

Tulane added two insurance runs in the seventh to make the final.

Will Mabry tossed 3.1 innings in the start for the Colonels, allowing four runs on four hits while walking four. Cole Simoneaux, Tyler Avery and Dalton Hill each had a hitlless inning of work out of the bullpen.

A sacrifice bunt gave the Green Wave an early 1-0 advantage, then James Agabedis had a rare RBI groundout in the second with the runner able to score all the way from second base. Kaikea Harrison added an RBI single in the frame for a 3-0 lead.

Agabedis then put Tulane up 4-0 with a solo home run in the fourth.

Trent Liolios was responsible for the final two runs, getting a two-run single off of Peyton Lacy in the seventh.

LuisPablo Navarro notched the win with 3.0 hitless frames while striking out five. As a staff, Tulane racked up 12 strikeouts.
