THIBODAUX, La. - Coming off a record-breaking weekend, the Nicholls State University women's soccer team is slated to make its home debut on Thursday, Aug. 20 against the Alcorn Braves. Kickoff at the Thibodaux Regional Sports Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Nicholls (1-0-1) has put together a strong start to Year 3 under
Kristy Helmers, earning a draw with Louisiana Tech to open the season before scoring a single-game school record 11 goals at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The performances landed league recognition as
Aislinn Wright was named Southland Conference Goalkeeper of the Week while
Kaylie Harris earned honorable mention for defensive POW.Â
Wright racked up 10 saves in the 2-2 draw against LA Tech to head the Colonel defense, matching her career best. On offense, five players have found the back of the net two times --
Alyssa Wheeler,
Jezlyn Nelson,
Sydney Becker, Harris, and
Olyvia Pugh. Wheeler and Nelson scored in each of the first two contests.
Alcorn opened the season with setbacks against McNeese and ULM. The Braves scored in each matchup but surrendered a total of eight goals.
Nicholls won the first six meetings all-time but the teams have split the last six, including a 3-1 win by Alcorn last season. The last trip to Thibodaux resulted in a 3-2 win for the Colonels in 2022.Â
