THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University women's soccer team will hit the road for a matchup against Louisiana on Thursday, August 27. Kickoff from Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex in Lafayette is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Last week, Nicholls (1-1-2) suffered its first loss of the season in a 7-4 high scoring affair against Alcorn. The Colonels closed the week with a 2-2 draw against Grambling.
The Red & Gray offense has been clicking so far this season as they have scored 19 goals which is one less than they had all of last season. 10 different Colonels have scored at least one goal, and seven different players have registered at least one assist.
Alyssa Wheeler leads the team in points (9) as she has three goals and three assists.
Olyvia Pugh has eight points as she also has three goals and two assists.
Jezlyn Nelson has three goals and one assist.
Kaylie Harris is second on the team in assists (2) while also scoring twice.
The Colonels' defense has been solid allowing 11 goals. Goalkeeper
Aislinn Wright has tallied 20 saves and posted one shut out. Her best outing was a 10 save performance in the season opening draw against LA Tech.
This will be Louisiana's fourth contest against a Southland Conference opponent this season. UL opened the season with a 4-1 victory over Southeastern followed by a loss to Ole Miss (1-2), a draw against East Texas A&M (3-3), and a 4-1 win over Northwestern State. Thursday will mark the first time the Colonels and Ragin' Cajuns have clashed since 2020 which was a 3-0 victory for UL. The Red & Gray have not beaten UL since 2016 as they trail the all-time series 10-3 dating back to 2002.
