Nicholls Baseball to Host Spring Hill and Grambling State in Consecutive Nights

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team made a last-minute amendment to its schedule over the weekend to include a matchup with Spring Hill College at 6 p.m. on Monday in Thibodaux, before hosting Grambling State at 6 p.m. the following night as previously scheduled.

The Colonels (21-14-1) last played on Sunday April 12, clenching a 2-1 series victory over Central Arkansas, before having a midweek contest with South Alabama postponed due to inclement weather.

The Badgers (26-11) have had an outstanding year and are currently a perfect 16-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team is coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Stillman College on April 12.

The Tigers (5-25) have had a rough season to date and have lost 12 of their last 13 games. The squad will face the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a doubleheader on Sunday, prior to Tuesday's matchup with Nicholls.

The Colonels are set to throw righty Marc Frazier (1-5) on Monday and lefty Grant Borne (3-4) on Tuesday. Frazier enters with an ERA of 4.47 and 32 strikeouts through 44 1/3 innings on the mound. Borne posts an ERA of 1.59 and has tossed 56 2/3 innings with 56 strikeouts this season.

Spring Hill College and Grambling State have not announced a starter at press time.

Kyle Reese paces the Nicholls offense with a .311 average, 18 runs scored and 14 RBIs. Tanner Vandevere has a team-high 18 RBIs, while Justin Holt leads the squad with 23 runs this season.

The high-powered Badgers are averaging nine runs per game to lead the SIAC and are led by Taylor Eads with an incredible .558 average. Eads has scored 56 runs and contributed 41 RBIs, with 15 doubles, eight home runs and a monster .883 slugging percentage. Alex Jones is second on the team with a .450 average and paces the squad with 57 RBIs.

The Tigers are led offensively by Diamyn Hall, hitting .385. Larry Barraza leads the team in both RBIs (22) and runs scored (21).

Because of the late addition of Monday's ballgame, broadcast information is to be determined. Tuesday's matchup will be broadcast live on KNSU 91.5 FM.
