THIBODAUX, La. – The red-hot Nicholls State University baseball team will put its eight-game winning streak on the line as the team hosts Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Ray E. Didier Field.
The Colonels (32-16-1) are riding their longest winning streak since 2010 and clinched their second-consecutive Southland Conference tournament appearance over the weekend. Nicholls downed ULM, swept Houston Baptist and capped off a sweep of New Orleans with a 6-0 shutout on Senior Day. The Colonels have earned back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time since 1992-93.
The Ragin' Cajuns (31-19) have lost four of their last six games, dropping consecutive series against Appalachian State and South Alabama. Louisiana-Lafayette has been outscored 41-16 over that stretch.
The Ragin' Cajuns hold a 69-51-1 advantage in the all-time series against Nicholls, but the Colonels earned a 3-1 victory over ULL in front of 4,100 fans at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field in most recent matchup between the programs on March 25.
Marc Frazier (3-5) is set to take the mound for Nicholls on Tuesday. Frazier enters the matchup with a 3.44 ERA and 53 strikeouts through 65 1/3 innings of work. He has been particularly hot recently, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.12 in his last five outings. Over that stretch, Frazier has tossed 17 strikeouts through 16 innings and allowed only two runs on 11 hits.
Louisiana-Lafayette has not announced a starting pitcher.
Kyle Reese spearheads the Colonel offense. Reese leads the SLC in batting average (.378), slugging percentage (.537) and triples (19). He's currently riding a 15-game hitting streak and has scored 34 runs with 29 RBIs. Reese was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week on Monday.
Justin Holt leads the team in runs with 35 on the year.
Tanner Vandevere has a team-high five triples and has contributed 26 RBIs this season.
Blake Trahan paces the Ragin' Cajun offense with a .351 average, 41 runs scored and 25 RBIs. Stefan Trosclair leads the squad with 35 RBIs and is second in runs with 39.
Nicholls will host Louisiana-Lafayette before concluding its regular season with a three-game conference series on the road against Northwestern State over the weekend. All four matchups will be broadcast live on KTIB 640 AM.
