Both teams missed field goals in the first overtime before HBU took a 30-27 lead with a field goal in the second. Senior RB

RECAP)
BEST OF THE BEST
While the Colonels have never played at home as the No. 1 team, they have hosted the top-ranked team twice. In 1995, McNeese came to town with the honor and defeated the Colonels, 31-6. In 1999, Nicholls was defeated by former Southland member Troy, 20-0.
MCKEY TO SUCCESS
In his first season as the Colonels' place kicker, junior
David McKey has connected on 7-of-10 field goals. Last week at HBU, he made a career-long 44-yarder and nailed a 35-yard field goal with six seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. McKey currently ranks 25th in the FCS with 1.17 field goals per game.
9000 STRONG
The home crowd has been a huge asset for the Colonels this season, as both games have resulted in a reported attendance of at least 8,000 people. In the win over SFA, the home side completely sold out, resulting in the Colonels playing in front of the biggest crowd since 2003. The SFA Homecoming game had 9,002 spectators, while the game in 2003 drew 10,650. The largest crowd ever was in 1981 against Southern (14,125).
DEJA VU???
The Colonels' 2016 campaign has started out a lot like their 2005 championship season. In both cases, Nicholls almost upset a team from a Power 5 conference to start the season (Indiana '05, Georgia '16). They then went on to win the second game, before dropping the next two. In '05, the Colonels won their last five conference games to finish at 5-1 and earn a share of the title.Â
