Nicholls carded a 307 in the first round and followed up with a 311 in the second, totaling a 618 42-over to tie for seventh with Detroit Mercy. Leading after 36 holes was host DePaul with a 589 13-over. The Colonels are within 10 strokes of fourth place as they enter the final round.
"We started out a little sloppy, but overall it was a good effort," said head coach
James Schilling. "Some of the par 5s could be reached in two, so it was feast or famine and that was the difference today. The wind picked up in the second round and made the course a little tougher. We just have to do better tomorrow."
Leading the way for the Colonels was McCulloch with a 72-76—150, good for a tie for 11th place. McCulloch was just one of six golfers in the field to card an even or better in the opening round. He had five birdies in the first round and added one more in the second.
Josh Fullilove was second for the Colonels after sinking a team-high nine birdies. Fullilove shot a 78 in the first before shaving two strokes off in the second for a 78-76—154.
Chad Watts-Denyes and
Jack Lee both finished with 157s as each shot 78 and 79.
Jamison Thomassee rounded out the competitors with a 166.
DePaul's James Lelliott leads the field with an even 144, followed by teammate Freddy Thomas at 1-over.
