BATON ROUGE, La.  – Nicholls State University men's golfer Albert Badosa-Soler was one of three golfers to card an eagle in the opening round of the NCAA Championship Baton Rouge Regional, as he completed Day One of regional play Monday at the University Club.

Badosa-Soler finished the round with an 8-over 80 on the day and will enter Tuesday in a tie for 62nd place out of a total of 75 golfers competing in the regional. He will tee off at 9:50 a.m. in the morning, starting on the back nine.

Badosa-Soler's eagle came immediately after a tough double bogey on 16. After an impressive drive, he nearly sank a 2 on the par-5 17th as he blasted a 2-iron 240 yards on his second shot and the ball rolled to a stop just a foot away from the hole. He tapped it in for his second below-par score of the round.

The native of Girona, Spain shot a 3-over 39 on the front after starting the day with two bogeys. A putt on hole two lipped out for par, as did a putt on hole three for birdie. He also had opportunities to knock a stroke off on holes four, eighth and nine, but just missed on birdie putts.

On the back, his luck immediately changed as he carded a 3 on the par-4 10th. He then followed with three bogeys and two pars on the next five holes before registering his only non single-bogey of the round. Badosa-Soler had to tee off three times on the 16th after catching a tough break when his first two shots skipped off a hill and into the out-of-bounds area.

Following his eagle on the 551-yard 17th, he closed out the round with a bogey for a 5-over 41 on the back.

Host LSU is leading team play with a 12-under, and Tiger Sam Burns heads the field with a 7-under 65.

Badosa-Soler will be grouped with Loyola-Maryland's William Wears for the second straight round, along with Alabama State's Charles Griffin, Jr.
