THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University football team moved inside the top 10 of the national rankings as the Colonels landed at No. 9 in the AFCA Coaches and STATS FCS Top 25 Polls, released on Monday.
With a perfect record against the FCS and a 3-0 mark in the Southland, the Colonels matched their season-high ranking in the coaches poll and cracked the Top 10 of the media poll for the first time. The only other team ranked in both polls in the Southland was Central Arkansas at No. 13. Nicholls and UCA played two weeks ago with the Colonels winning at home, 34-14.
UIW made an appearance in the coaches poll at No. 25.
Also at the national level, senior quarterback Chase Fourcade received honorable mention for STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Week. Fourcade rushed for a career-high 135 yards on 14 carries and scored twice on the ground in the 45-35 win over rival Northwestern State. In the passing game, he threw for 188 yards and a touchdown.
UP NEXT
The Colonels hit the road next weekend to face Sam Houston State on Saturday, Oct. 19. Kickoff in Huntsville is scheduled for 2 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN+.
