STATS RELEASE
CHICAGO – Nicholls State University senior defensive lineman
Sully Laiche became the second Colonel in as many days to receive national recognition as he was placed on the STATS FCS Buck Buchanan Watch List, the organization announced Thursday.
Laiche was one of only 25 players to be named to the preseason watch list. First awarded in 1995, the Buchanan has sent past winners such as Dexter Coakley, Rashean Mathis, Jared Allen, Arthur Moats and Kyle Emanuel on to the NFL. Quarterback
Chase Fourcade landed on the Walter Payton Watch List, which was announced yesterday.
Laiche has been a standout defender since arriving in 2016, increasing his career sack total to 25.5 after racking up 8.5 in his junior campaign. He is a three-time All-Southland recipient and earned three All-American honors last season.
In 2018, Laiche was also named to the Buchanan Watch List. He anchored the Colonel defense that ranked among the best in the FCS with 106 tackles for loss and 40 sacks. Laiche totaled 17.0 tackles behind the line of scrimmage to finish in the top 50 of the nation.
The award will be presented at the STATS FCS Banquet and Presentation, which is set to take place during the week leading up to the 2020 Division I Football Championship Game on January 11 in Frisco, Texas.
