MCKINNEY, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's golf team closed out the 2021 Southland Conference Championship with a low-round 304 on Wednesday, besting five of the 10 other teams in the final round at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
With five freshmen seeing the Dye Course for the first time, the squad improved each day by carding a 327-312-304--943. The 304 was helped by a team-high 10 birdies as all of the players in the lineup shot in the 70s.
Mickael Najmark had two of the birdies and posted a 1-over 73, matching
Martin Trochu's Tuesday outing for the lowest round of the tournament for the Red and Gray.
Ryan O'Neil, who had three birdies, Trochu and
Liam Bryden all shot 77 in the final round, and
Jaime Suarez Morales was a stroke behind at 78.
For the tournament, Trochu claimed a top 20 finish with a 227 to tie for 17th place. Najmark was eight strokes back at 235 and was followed by O'Neil (237), Bryden (244) and Morales, who had a two-day score of 161.
Victor Le Gal played in Round 1 and turned in an 87.
Nicholls finished three strokes behind UIW (940) for the tournament and was within striking distance of New Orleans (938) and Southeastern Louisiana (936). Sam Houston claimed the team and individual titles as the Bearkats finished with an 873, led by Paul Chaplet's 213.
