BEAUMONT, Texas - The Nicholls State University softball team fell in both of its games Friday against Lamar University, dropping the doubleheader, 4-3 and 3-1, at the LU Softball Complex.
The Colonels and Cardinals will wrap up the series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for noon.Â
Freshman
Ashlyn Reavis hit safely in both outings to extend her hitting streak to six games. She had two hits in the opening contest as Nicholls (11-24, 4-19 SLC) outhit Lamar , 8-6, but the Colonels lost on a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh. Nicolette Ramirez, who drove in three runs for Lamar, got the final RBI with two down on a base hit through the left side.
Lulu Vazquez also had two hits for the Red and Gray, scoring in the third inning after doubling. But Lamar took back the lead in the bottom half when Ramirez singled in two runners.
The teams traded runs in the fourth with Nicholls using back-to-back doubles by
Caitlin Garcia andÂ
Melise Gossen. In the fifth,
Kennedy Hebert tied the game for the Colonels on a sacrifice fly.
Brittney Turner and
Alexis LaBure each pitched 3.1 innings and allowed three hits, with LaBure taking the loss. Aaliyah Ruiz pitched all seven games and struck out six.
For the nightcap, Lamar (7-40, 3-20 SLC) scored in the first inning and put the winning runs on the board in the fifth. The Colonels scored their run in the seventh but left the bases loaded after having just one out.Â
Reavis,
Skylar Hamilton, Gossen and
Yasmeen Williams each had a hit, with Williams driving in the lone run on a hit-by-pitch.
Taryn Westbrook was tabbed with the loss after throwing 1.0 inning in her start.
Jordan Moon threw 5.0 innings of relief and struck out three.Â
