HOUMA, La. - Behind a second straight top-10 finish by
Braxton Kuntz, the Nicholls State University men's golf team moved up on spot from yesterday as the Colonels finished in sixth place in the Ellendale Intercollegiate following a final round 295 Tuesday at the Ellendale Country Club.
Facing gusty winds for most of the day, Nicholls carded a 295 for its final 18 for a three-round score of 297-291-295--883. The Colonels finished a stroke behind Troy for fifth place and two ahead of Samford. Southeastern took the team crown with an 859, edging North Alabama by a stroke.
Kuntz shot an even par 72 and finished even for the tournament with a 73-71-72--216. He had four birdies on the back 9 and totaled 10 in the two days. Kuntz tied for third two weeks ago in the Colin Montgomerie.
Ryan O'Neil placed just outside the top 10 as he tied for 12th (218) after turning in a 2-over 74. O'Neil added four birdies in the round and finished with a team-high 14.
Martin Trochu rounded out the top three finishers for the Colonels with a 73, tying for 16th with a 219.
Southeastern's Logan Kuehn won individual honors, shooting a 210 to finish a stroke ahead of UIW's Ken-Marten Soo.
