LAFAYETTE, La. - Nicholls State University men's golfer
Ryan O'Neil has been named to the 2021-22 All-Louisiana Second Team, as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) announced Friday its annual all-state honors.
O'Neil was the lone golfer from the Southland Conference to be named to the two-team squad. The honor adds to a stellar year for the Charlotte, North Carolina native who was also named All-Southland First Team and Southland Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year.
O'Neil grabbed his first Louisiana accolade after finishing the season with a 73.33 stroke average. He took part in eight events and secured five Top-15 finishes, including a medalist honor in the Gulf Coast Collegiate and runner-up at the Southland Championship.
LSU claimed five of the 10 spots on the teams and three of the four specialty awards with Garrett Barber named Player of the Year for the third consecutive season while Cohen Trolio was tabbed as the state's top freshman and Chuck Winstead as Coach of the Year. ULM's Jacob Agerschou was tabbed as the LSWA Men's Newcomer of the Year.
The teams were nominated and selected by the state's golf sports information directors.
