JACKSON, Tenn. - The Nicholls State University men's golf team shot a 293 in the final round of the Grover Page Classic on Tuesday, moving up one spot with a three-round total of 890 to take 11th place.
Nicholls ended Round 1 in last out of the 16 teams but was able to climb five spots on the leaderboard. Following a 307 in the opening round, the Colonels fired a 290 before adding just three strokes in the final 18 holes on Tuesday
Ryan O'Neil highlighted the day with a 2-under 70 and
Martin Trochu followed up his career round with a 75, still taking the top spot for the Colonels with a +1 (217). Trochu tied for 20th while O'Neil tied for 31st with a 219. O'Neil sank five birdies with four coming on the front 9.
"We had a slow start today and finished on some of the harder holes, but we were still able to move up in the team division," said Nicholls golf coach
James Schilling. "We competed with the other two Southland teams - New Orleans and Southeastern - and were able to pass one of them. We'll have a little time off to focus hard on our academics and studies, and get ready for Georgia State in a couple weeks."
For the rest of the lineup,
Mickael Najmark and
Jace LeJeune each carded a 74 while
Peyton Canter shot an 80.
Felix Fernandez shot an 85 competing as an individual.
North Alabama took the team title with an 843 and also claimed medalist honors as Carter Goodwin won by a single stroke at -9 (207).

The Colonels will head to the Peach State on Oct. 3 for the Georgia State Invitational.
