HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Nicholls State University men's golf team got its spring season underway in the Wexford Intercollegiate, finishing with a 920 in the two-day event.
Nicholls posted two sub-300 rounds on Monday but turned in the highest score of Tuesday's action with a 323, sliding eight spots on the leaderboard to finish 16th out of 18 teams. South Carolina - Aiken won the tournament with a 879.
Playing in his first event of the season,
Braxton Kuntz led the Colonels with a 226, tying for 28th. He shot 1-over in the opening round and even in the second, but totaled an 81 on Tuesday. Kuntz was one of just 18 golfers in the field to card at least 10 birdies.
Ryan O'Neil (229) and
Mickael Najmark (231) had the top scores for the Red and Gray on Tuesday, shooting 79s. O'Neil also shot even in the second round while
Jace LeJeune's even round came in his first 18 holes. He and
Martin Trochu finished at 241.
Host Francis Marion's Grant Sellers took medalist honors with a 4-under 212. He won by two strokes, helped by a 67 in the second round.
