Men's Golf posts low round to close out Walden Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Texas - Despite battling with gusty winds on Tuesday, the Nicholls State University men's golf team turned in an even 288 to move up three spots, tying for ninth place out of 14 teams in the Huntsville Toyota Bearkat Invitational at the Walden on Lake Conroe. 

Ryan O'Neil paced the Colonels in the final round, sinking four birdies for a 3-under 69. Mickael Najmark had an even 72 while Martin Trochu and Braxton Kuntz followed with a 73 and 74. Jace LeJeune finished with a seven-over 79.

Kuntz had the best overall finish for Nicholls with a 220, tying for 29th place. He was steady throughout the three rounds as he recorded the first most pars in the event with 37. 

Trochu totaled a 221 for a tie at 33rd and O'Neil carded a 223 to tie for 40th. Mickael Najmark shot a 227 for the three days while LeJeune finished at 234.

Host Sam Houston won the tournament by 26 strokes while Texas A&M's Phichaksn Maichon took medalist honors.

Nicholls will have Easter weekend off before returning to action on April 17 in the Tunica National Intercollegiate, hosted by Arkansas State.
