Lake Charles, La - The Nicholls State University track and field teams excelled at the McNeese Indoor event last Thursday and Friday (Jan. 25-26). There were multiple top-10 finishes for both squads and many personal best records set. 
Freshman 
Maria Nikolaou had a stellar performance in the women's 800 meters, coming in 2nd place with a time of 2:15.71. This has put Nikolaou in 4th place in the Southland Conference standing for the 800 meters for this season. Nikolaou also secured herself a spot in the Nicholls' record books as she now ranks 5th all-time in the 800m for Nicholls State. 
Sophomore Jumper Sydeny Brown also excelled at McNeese, recording a new personal best in the high jump at 1.60m, placing 3rd in the event. This also puts her 6th all-time in the Nicholls' record books for women's high jump. Brown also came in 4th in triple jump with a distance of 11.13m. 
On the men's side, 
Lucas Futey had a stand-out performance in the men's 3k. Futey set a new personal best with a time of 8:59.19 coming in 4th place. 
Two freshmen to make a name for themselves in the pentathlon were 
Jinte Braas and 
Cherie Neal. Braas came in 3rd place with 3043 points and her fellow teammate placed in 4th with 2984 points. 
UP NEXT 
The Colonels back to Baton Rouge on February 16th to compete in the LSU Twilight indoor meet, the last meet before the Southland Conference Championship.
