NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Nicholls State University men's golf team improved its score in each round of the Gulf Coast Collegiate and finished the event in 12th place out of 16 teams.
On a breezy opening day on Monday, Nicholls shot a 318 in the first round before turning in a 315 for the second. Tuesday's action saw the Colonels fire a 306, which was the seventh lowest total in the field for the final round. Nicholls moved up one spot on the leaderboard with a three-round total of 939, two strokes behind Texas A&M-Commerce.
Freshman
Chase Pochylko secured a top 20 finish with a 228, helped by a 3-over 75 in the final 18 holes. He tied for the third-most birdies in the event with 10.
Jack Moro totaled a 234 and had the lone eagle for the Colonels. In Monday's opening round, he recorded a 2 on the par-4 No. 1 hole.
Dylan Weber shot a 237 and had the biggest improvement throughout the two days. After turning in an 84 in the first round, he had a 79 in the second before leading the team with a 2-over 74 in the final 18.
Rounding out the lineup for Nicholls were
Thomas Danielson (240) and
Diego Prat Cruza (262).
Memphis took the team title by 10 strokes with an 880 with Tigers Diego Lourenco and Jack Tanner placing first and second.
