LAKE CHARLES, La. – After a strong showing in the season opener, the Nicholls State University track and field teams kept their momentum going as they posted 25 top 10 finishes and multiple personal-bests at the McNeese Indoor II on Thursday and Friday.
The two-day event featured a total of 21 men's and women's teams are entered. Those include: Carroll CC, Dillard (M/W), LeTourneau (M/W), Loyola-New Orleans (M/W), McNeese (M/W), Northwestern State (M), Southern (M/W), Southwestern Texas (M/W), Southwestern Christian College (M), Tulane (M), Victoria College (M), Xavier, La. (M/W).
The Colonels had a great showing in the women's pentathlon with
Jinte Braas taking first place with a 3090-mark followed by
Andrea Tirado (2635) and
Alaila Allen (2298) who finished third and fourth, respectively. Braas kept her momentum rolling into Friday as she soared 5.08m to place seventh in the women's long jump.
In the field,
Sydney Brown posted a pair of top five finishes as she leaped 1.61m to claim second in the high jump before posting a 10.53m mark to take fourth in the triple jump. In the men's long jump, Chris Tucker soared 6.36m to place seventh in the event. In the men's shot put
Jarred Whitrack posted a 13.55m mark to claim eighth.
On the track, the Red & Gray had two induvial wins and multiple top 10 finishes. The Colonels dominated the women's 800m race as
Maria Nikolaou won with a time of 2:18.86 while
Isabelle Seijhouwer (2:23.17) and
Anne De Jong (2:25.86) placed fifth and ninth respectively. While in the women's 600m race
Layla Ingalls was the first person to cross the finish line with a time of 1:43.22 followed by
Samantha Lemoine (1:55.64) who claimed fifth.
Additionally, the Colonels had multiple runners finish in the top 10 in both 3K races. On the women's side
Issy Rivault (10:36.06) placed second while
Elaina Hansen (10:56.31),
Payton Theriot (11:15.52), and
Avery Guidry (11:16.99) finished fourth, fifth and sixth. In the men's race,
Lucas Futey finished second with a time of 8:59.34 while
Brady Sins (9:18.76) and Ty Frazier (9:35.48) placed sixth and eighth.
In the men's 800m,
Goran Duijsters (1:59.44) finished fifth while
William Nizzo (2:04.13) and
Adam Gautreaux (2:05.50) placed eighth and ninth. In the men's one mile run,
William Bellina placed ninth after clocking a time of 4:42.97.
Jake Fabacher finished sixth in the men's 600 with a time of 1:28.37 while Michael "Trey" Crawford placed eighth in the men's 200m race with a time of 23.84.
