SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Nicholls State University baseball team defeated UIW 6-2 to secure the series victory on Sullivan Field on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls set the tone early as
Caston Thompson laced a two out single to center field before scoring on a
Nico Rijo-Berger base knock to put the Colonels up 1-0 in the opening inning.
Following two scoreless frames, the Colonels extended their lead with two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Will Mabry singled and later scored on a
Logan Terry ground out.
Greyson Shafer doubled before scoring on a single by
Andy Miller. After a pitching change in the fifth,
Matt Melancon worked a leadoff walk, Thompson blasted his seventh home run of the season to put the Red & Gray up 5-0.
UIW only had two hits off Colonel starting pitcher
