THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten 11-1 by Lamar University on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.
Nicholls (18-18, 10-10 SLC) built momentum early as
Casey Artigues began the game with a leadoff walk, followed by a base knock by
Nico Rijo-Berger. After advancing to third, Artigues scored on a
Caston Thompson sacrifice fly to center field.
The Colonels fell behind after Lamar took control of the game by scoring 11 runs on 14 hits across the next six stanzas. The Cardinals effort at the plate was spearheaded by Hector Rodriguez who had four hits including a home run and two doubles. Kevin Duran and Beau Durbin had three RBI a piece.
Rijo-Berger and Thompson had two hits apiece to make up the Colonels offense. Starting pitcher
Nuno Parache suffered his fourth loss of the season after allowing nine hits and six runs in 4.1 innings of work.
