LAFAYETTE, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team was beaten 7-1 by the University of Louisiana on M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park on Wednesday night.
Nicholls fell behind 2-0 early as Louisiana plated a pair of runs on a two out single in the opening inning.
Greyson Shafer cut the Colonels' deficit in half in the ensuing frame with a double to center field that allowed
Keegan Giger to score from first.
After a hot start at the plate, both teams' pitching staffs took control of the action. Both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings before UL scored five runs on five hits in the fifth inning.
The Colonels' offense remained at bay as they recorded one hit and left five runners stranded after the unit tallied three in the second stanza. Overall, the Colonels had five hits as Giger led the way with two.
The Red & Gray used nine different pitchers and combined for 10 strikeouts.

Nicholls will return to Southland Conference action in a three game home series against New Orleans on May 1-3. First pitch from Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Friday and Saturday is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the series finale on Sunday will begin at 1 p.m.
