THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team will hit the road for its final road series of the season as they take on Southeastern in Hammond on May 7-9.
Games are now scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. However, incoming weather could affect times and dates for contests. All the action will be streamed via ESPN+.
NICHOLLS DUGOUT
Nicholls (25-23, 15-12 SLC) enters the final week of the regular season in fifth place in the Southland Conference Standings. Last week the Colonels were busy as they swept a double header against Southeastern Baptist before losing a midweek game at Louisiana and ending the week by losing a three game home series against New Orleans.
The Colonels balanced offense features three players batting over .300 and four who have at least 50 hits. The unit is led by
Nico Rijo-Berger who hits .346 with 53 hits and 27 RBI.
Greyson Shafer (.303) and
Caston Thompson (.305) have 50 and 53 hits respectively. Additionally, they are the second pair of Colonel teammates to have double figure home runs in the same season.
Keegan Giger leads the team in hits with 58 while adding 38 RBI.
The Red & Gray bullpen posts a 5.28 ERA, and .256 opp. batting average while combining for 436 strikeouts.
Haden Luke (5.21 ERA) has six victories and a team high 66 strikeouts while
Nuno Parache (4.53 ERA) has 46 strikeouts in a team high 51.2 innings of work.
Dawson Richard (4.39 ERA) has emerged as the third weekend starter as he posts 38 strikeouts in 41 innings.
SOUTHEASTERN DUGOUT
Southeastern (30-19, 18-9 SLC) sits atop the league standings with a one game lead over Lamar who they beat in a three-game series last week in Beaumont. Like Nicholls, the Lions offense has four players with more than 50 hits as Justin Williams (.309) leads the way with 55 followed by Brody Capps (53) while Ben Robichaux and Connor Cuff have 51 apiece. SLU's offense also has five players with double figure home runs as they have hit 81 as a unit.
On the mound the Lions have a cumulative ERA of 5.10 while combining for 373 strikeouts. Nik Toups (4.15 ERA) leads the team in strikeouts followed by Blake Lobell (4.88 ERA) who has 48 strikeouts in a team high 62.2 innings of work.
