TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Nicholls State University men's golf team completed 36 holes Saturday to open play in the Seminole Intercollegiate, hosted by Florida State at the Golden Eagle Country Club.
Nicholls started with a 303 in the first round and followed with a 306, finishing in 13th out of 14 teams. The Colonels trail Troy by nine strokes and hold a one-stroke lead over Morehead State.
The field is loaded with top teams across the country, including four ranked in the Golfstat Top 50. Jacksonville shot a 564 and has a five-stroke edge at 12-under.
Freshman
Ben Baker had the best showing for Nicholls, shooting a 1-over and 1-under to finish the day at even par. After recording a lone birdie in the opening round, Baker had three under par holes in his second 18, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fourth hole. He ended Saturday tied for 23rd on the leaderboard.
Connor Campbell had the second-best round with a 2-over 74. He finished with a 156, which was one stroke behind
Jack Lee (79-76).
Baker Stevenson turned in a 77-81--158 and
Warut Wongrungroj shot an 84-78-162.

The Colonels close out the Seminole Intercollegiate Sunday morning with the final 18 holes. Play is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.
