LIVE SCORING
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Nicholls State University freshman men's golfer
Nils Dobrunz continued his solid rookie season with a 3-under performance through 36 holes as the Colonels wrapped up Monday's rounds in the Graeme McDowell Invitational as the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
Dobrunz had three birdies in the first round for a 1-under 71, then added two more in the second to card a 70. With his total score of 141, he enters Tuesday's final round three strokes behind UAB's Ben Reichert and Western Kentucky's Linus Lo for the lead.
Although Dobrunz had a strong outing Monday, Nicholls finished the day in last place out of 19 teams after shooting 304 and 307. The Colonels were shorthanded in the second round after
Mickael Najmark was unable to compete due to injury.
"Obviously, not the result we wanted today," said Nicholls golf head coach
James Schilling. "Too many mistakes and too many big numbers. Each round we got too far behind early on and then playing with four was difficult. We're a young team and we'll continue to learn, but we'll just need to see who can respond from these situations."
Warut Wongrungroj had the second-best outing for the Colonels with a 76 and 77. He ended his day with birdies on 17 and 18 to tie for 60th out of 100 golfers.
Ryan O'Neil totaled a 160--79-81 and was followed by
Ben Baker at 161--82-79.
Najmark shot a 78 in the opening round before withdrawing due to injury.
