MONTGOMERY, Texas - Mickael Najmark turned in a 72 on Tuesday to pace the Nicholls State University men's golf team as the Colonels finished the second round of the Bentwater Intercollegiate in ninth place out of 12 teams.
Nicholls added two strokes to its score from Monday, totaling a 298 for a two-round score of 594. The Colonels sit nine strokes behind Rice for eighth place and are two ahead of HBU. Nicholls will be paired with South Dakota State and Rice for the final 18 on Wednesday.
Najmark totaled four birdies in the round including back-to-back on holes 9 and 10. He got down to even par with birdies on 13 and 15 before bogeying 17 to finish at 1-over.
Braxton Kuntz led the team with five birdies on the day and shot a 2-over 73 in the round. He also had back-to-back birdies on 12 and 13.
After 36 holes, Najmark and
Ryan O'Neil are tied for 24th on the leaderboard at +5. O'Neil shot a 75 in his second round and was followed by
Liam Bryden (78) and
Jace LeJeune (79).
Host Sam Houston took the team lead at 568, 11 strokes ahead of South Alabama and Midland Community College. Bearkat Chad Sewell enters the final day atop the leaderboard at -8.
