JACKSON, Tenn. – The Nicholls State University men's golf team finished its first tournament of the season at the Grover Page Classic and was led by a 12th-place finish by
Ryan O'Neil.
O'Neil had four birdies for the third straight round but repeated his results from the first 18, adding three bogeys and a double for a 1-over 73. He ended the classic with a 214 which placed him just outside of earning his second career top 10 finish.
Nicholls slipped down four spots on the leaderboard, tying for 13th after shooting a 299. The Colonels added two strokes from the first-round score and totaled an 889—297-293-299. Host UT Martin won the tournament by five strokes with an 852.
Braxton Kuntz paced the Colonels on the final day, shooting an even 72. The freshman was able to birdie two of his final four holes and had the second-best finish for the Red and Gray with a 224—75-77-72.
Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard took medalist honors with a 201 after shooting sub 70s in each round.
UP NEXT
The Colonels head to Texas next week for the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Texas. The three-day tournament begins on Monday, Oct. 11.
