MATHEWS, La. - The Nicholls State University men's golf team saw two schedule changes and blistering cold temperatures for its annual LaTour Intercollegiate, but the Colonels were able to get in two rounds to complete its first tournament since March of last year.
One of the Colonels making his debut,
Martin Trochu, had a strong outing by tying for 12th in the 70-golfer field. He finished with a 1-under 71 for the round, helped by three birdies on the back nine, and was 2-over for the event (75-72—146).
Ryan O'Neil also had a solid day, shooting a 2-over 74 to tie for 21st. He shaved a stroke off of his Saturday's total to card a 75-74—149.
Rounding out team play for Nicholls was
Jaime Suarez Morales (78-76—154),
Victor Le Gal (75-79—154), and
Liam Bryden (82-78—160).
Mickael Najmark (79-81—160) and
Jonathan Kotzen (78-83—161) competed in the event as individuals.
Despite shooting a 299, four strokes lower than Saturday, Nicholls (602) slipped to 11th place out of 13 teams. The Colonels were edged by Stephen F. Austin by a stroke while Eastern Kentucky (598) and UIW (597) finished at ninth and eighth, respectively.
Louisiana Tech maintained its lead from yesterday and won the title with a 12-under 564, besting runner up Jacksonville State by 18 strokes. Sam Murphy also ended Sunday on top for the Bulldogs, earning medalist honors with a 7-under two-round score (69-68—137).
UP NEXT
Nicholls will be back at it in a couple weeks for the Gulf Coast Collegiate, held at the Diamondhead Country Club, on March 1-2.
