THIBODAUX, La. - Nicholls State University football offensive lineman Evan Roussel has been selected to the 2022 Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-America Team, landing on third-team as the organization announced Monday its annual preseason squads.

A native of Lutcher, Louisiana, Roussel has started at center in his first two seasons at Nicholls, helping the Colonels to one of the top rushing offenses in the FCS. In 2021, the Colonel offense ranked fifth in the country with 246.7 yards rushing per game as the backfield featured top two rushers in the Southland. Both returning running backs from last season, Collin Guggenheim and Julien Gums, averaged 6.4 yards per carry for the Colonels in the fall. 

The offensive line was also outstanding in pass protection, ranking first in the nation in fewest tackles for loss and was eighth in sacks allowed. 

Roussel has garnered All-Southland in each of his first two campaigns and was a 2022 Preseason All-Southland First-Team selection. He was one of five players from the Southland Conference to be named to the Stats Perform list, joined by UIW's Taylor Grimes (1st) and Kelechi Anyalebechi (2nd), and Southeastern's Ferlando Jordan (1st) and Zy Alexander (2nd).
