BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Nicholls State University women's and men's track ended its indoor season in the Southland Indoor Championships, held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Although the Colonels did not claim any Top 3 finishes, several athletes set personal bests and and both teams earned points.
Christopher Tucker logged a 13.95m in the triple jump for an eighth-place finish, earning a point for the men's squad. On the women's side, the foursome of
Elsa Rijpstra,
Nia Maye,
Maryse Mbenoun and
Ceren Yilmaz took seventh in the distance medley, clocking a 12:53.49 for a seventh-place finish and two points.
Mbenoun and Rijpstra also had strong showings in their individual events. Rijpstra just missed out on a point in the 5000m, posting a 17:45.76 to place ninth. The next day, she ran her fastest time in the 3K at the championship with a 10:05.47 for a 10th-place finish. Mbenoun also placed one spot away from a point by taking ninth in the 800m with a 2:18.14.
Andrea Tirado set a new personal best in the in the pentathlon with 2,969 points and her high jump of 1.56m placed her eighth on the Colonels' all-time performer list.
For the men's,
Kevin Boden (1:56.98) and
William Bellina (2:01.91) set a new indoor personal records in the 800m.

Nicholls will begin its outdoor season in the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, starting on Friday, March 17.
