SUGAR LAND, Texas - Senior
Ryan O'Neil turned in two rounds under 70 for a career best -10, 206 to claim runner-up at the HCU Colin Montgomerie Tuesday at the Sweetwater Country Club.
O'Neil posted a career-round of 67 to open the event and followed with a 68 and 71. He was the lone Colonel to record an eagle, shooting a 3 on the par-5 No. 2. Despite his personal best outing, he finished two strokes behind Tarleton's Jack Anderson who claimed medalist honors.
O'Neil was joined in the Top 10 by
Braxton Kuntz. After taking fourth in the Gulf Coast Collegiate last week, Kuntz also carded two sub-70 rounds (71-69-68) for a 208 to tie for sixth place.
The two performances led the Colonels to a fourth-place finish out of 15 teams. Nicholls totaled a 287 in Monday's opening round and then posted a 280 in the second. They wrapped up the event with a 291 on Tuesday. The 858 was two strokes better than Southeastern and four behind Tarleton for third.
For the rest of the lineup,
Mickael Najmark shot a 222 and was followed by
Jace LeJeune (225) and
Martin Trochu (228). Najmark had a round of 70 to close out Monday's action.
