Doubles highlights Nicholls Men's Tennis All-Conference honorees

FRISCO, Texas - The Nicholls State University men's tennis team had a total of four players earn All-SLC recognition as the league office announced Wednesday evening its 2023 All-Southland Teams and award winners. 

Landing on First Team were the doubles duos of Omar Morsy/Quentin Lamothe at No. 2 and Lukas Morand/Antonio Sasso at No. 3. Sasso also received singles honors, being named Second Team at No. 5. 

Lamothe and Morsy anchored the Colonels in doubles play, posting a 10-3 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in the Southland. The duo was also tied at 5-5 against league champion New Orleans in their lone unfinished conference match. 

Morand and Sasso also ran the table in doubles in league competition, going 4-0 which did not include a victory over league affiliate NJIT. They teamed up for a 6-2 overall record as the Colonels claimed the doubles point in 12 matches this season. 

Sasso finished 9-2 overall in singles for the fifth-best winning percentage in the Southland. He was 3-1 in league play at No. 5 and had a straight-set win against NJIT. 

The Colonels continue their season on Thursday, taking on host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round of the Southland Conference Tournament. First ball is scheduled for 6 p.m.
