THIBODAUX, La. – Nicholls State University first baseman
Edgar Alvarez was named a Perfect Game Collegiate All-American Third Team as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
Alvarez is the first Colonel to garner All-American honors since Justin Sinibaldi was named to the Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American Third Team in 2015.
The Southland Conference Player of the Year was a force for the Red & Gray as he finished the season with the nation's ninth-best batting average (.405), 22nd most hits (92), 37th most doubles (21), and his 53 walks allowed him to boast the 14th-best on-base percentage (.514). He recorded a hit in all but seven games and reached base in 57 consecutive contests before having his streak broken in the final game.
The Orlando, Florida native had one of the best seasons in program history as he set single-season records for runs scored (76), RBI (67), and total bases (154). Additionally, he is the first Colonel since 1963 to post a batting average over .400. and his 92 hits are the second most in the single season in program history. Along with earning Player of the Year honors, Alvarez was named All-SLC first team, All-SLC Defensive team, and to the All-SLC Tournament squad for the second consecutive season. He was also named to the All-Regional Team for his performance in the Corvallis region in the NCAA Tournament.
