THIBODAUX, La. – After opening the season on the road, the Nicholls State University baseball team will host the University of South Alabama on Tuesday, Feb. 17. First pitch from Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be live streamed via ESPN+.
Nicholls (0-3) began the season on the road against No. 15 Tennessee. The Colonels had four players record multiple hits in the opening weekend series in Knoxville.
Nico Rijo-Berger started all three contests and finished the weekend with three hits.
Caston Thompson had a productive weekend as he was responsible for all three RBI for the Colonels. Thompson hit a home run in game two and had a base hit that plated two runs in the series finale.
Keegan Giger and
Hudson Mattox had two hits apiece in the series finale.
On the mound the Red & Gray pitching staff recorded 18 strikeouts as
Nuno Parache led the way with four in his four-inning outing in the season opener.

South Alabama (2-1) opened their season in a three game home series against the University of South Carolina – Upstate. The Jaguars won the opening game and the series finale and dropped Saturday's contest 10-7. USA had 30 runs on 31 hits including six doubles, two triples and eight home runs. Brennon Wright and Mike Young led the way with five hits apiece. Young also produced a team high six RBI. USA's pitching staff generated 31 strikeouts while allowing 33 hits and 20 runs during the season opening series.

Nicholls will hit the road to face LSU inside Alex Box Stadium on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. The Colonels will return home to host the University of Tennessee – Martin in a four-game series on Feb. 20-22.
