THIBODAUX, La. – (parts reprinted with permission) - The Nicholls State University baseball team will cross state lines to battle No. 12 Southern Miss as part of the Hancock Whitney Classic at Kesler Federal Park in Biloxi, Mississippi on Tuesday, March 17 at 6 p.m.
Earlier this month, Nicholls (11-11) beat then ranked No.10 Southern Miss (16-4) 3-2 in Hattiesburg. That was the fourth time the Colonels beat the Golden Eagles since 2006, and the Colonels have one the last two meetings including last season in Biloxi.
The Colonels enter the matchup on a three-game losing streak after dropping a three game home series against UTRGV. The Red & Gray offense is led by
Caston Thompson and
Greyson Shafer who hold batting averages of .346 and .328 respectively. Thompson leads the team in hits (27) and home runs (5) and has 17 RBI. Shafer has 21 hits and 19 RBI while
Keegan Giger has 26 hits and leads the team in RBI (21).
The Golden Eagles are coming off a week where they beat Ole Miss before losing two out of three games to Arkansas State in a weekend series. Joey Urban leads USM in batting average (.360), home runs (7), and RBI (21).
Tickets are now available through the Shuckers Box Office at Keesler Federal Park and Ticketmaster. Fans can click HERE for tickets. Tickets start at $21 for students and Season Ticket Members in the reserved level, and $23 for the general public. Suites are also available for the game through the Biloxi Shuckers Sales Department. Fans are encouraged to get their tickets in advance to receive a discount, as prices will increase on the day of the game.
