THIBODAUX, La. – After having a full week of rest, the Nicholls State University baseball team will return to action and host Northwestern State University in a three-game series on March 27-29.
Friday and Saturday's action will begin at 6 p.m. and the series finale will start at 1 p.m. All of the action from Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field will be streamed via ESPN+.
Last week, Nicholls (13-13, 5-6 SLC) split four contests as they began the week by dropping a neutral site game against No. 12 Southern Miss in Biloxi as part of the 2026 Whitney Hancock Classic. The Colonels then won two out of three games against UIW in San Antonio.
The Red & Gray offense is spearheaded by
Caston Thompson who leads the unit in batting average (.358), hits (34), RBI (22), runs (20) and home runs (7). Leadoff batter
Keegan Giger is second on the team in hits (28) and RBI (21) while
Greyson Shafer holds a .288 batting average as he has 23 hits and 20 RBI.
The Colonel pitching staff ranks 53rd nationally in strikeouts per nine innings and 62nd nationally in WHIP has accumulated 246 strikeouts.
Haden Luke (5.70 ERA) and
Nuno Parache (4.18 ERA) lead the team with 29 and 28 strikeouts respectively. Luke leads the team with four victories while
Dawson Richard (3.32 ERA) and
Tyler Avery (1.10 ERA) have two wins apiece.
Northwestern State (16-9, 8-4 SLC) has won three games in a row. Last weekend they won a series against New Orleans and then defeated ULM in Monroe on Tuesday night. The Demons' offense is led by Leonard Brooks (.344) and Thomas Marsala III (.330) who have combined for 65 of the teams 230 hits.
On the mound, Brody Trosclair (1.04 ERA) has 43 strikeouts in 26 innings of work. The other two projected starters for the Demons are Dylan Marionneaux (4.17 ERA) and Trent Hillen (5.45 ERA) and they have combined for 74 strikeouts in 69.2 innings of action.
